A couple from Illinois is suing the retail giant after they say they were unable to return a stuffed animal after a Walmart employee placed a stuffed toy into their trash.
The couple filed a lawsuit in Chicago federal court in July after a woman said she returned a stuffed hamster that had been placed in a trash bin and put in her garbage bag and said that Walmart “was not responsible” for the incident, the Associated Press reported.
Walmart, which has stores in 22 states, is a leading supplier of pet supplies to pet food manufacturers.
The company has been a target of a wave of lawsuits over the past year over the practice of storing pets in crates and boxes, the AP reported.
In response to the suit, Walmart said it was investigating the complaint.
The statement did not provide details.
